If you are starting out with freshwater fish. I’m going to try and save you the pain of finding the “perfect” tank. The Aqueon 10-gallon LED Light kit fish tank is the aquarium I originally chose when I first started out with freshwater fish. I’m going to tell you why I like this bad boy.
Why I Chose the Aqueon 10-Gallon LED Light Kit Fish Tank
There are quite a few fish tanks, aka aquariums, on the market as you probably know by now. For me, shopping for a tank, although fun at first, can end up being like shopping for last-minute Christmas gifts—not fun.
So in short, shopping for a tank almost drove me to drink, a lot.
I didn’t want to shop through absolutely everything on the market. I just wanted the tank to jump out in front of me and say, “Here I am!” I simply wanted to get a decent tank to get started with. I didn’t want anything too fancy or expensive. Just something to drop my crayfish in.
While doing my shopping, one of the pet stores I stopped at here in my home town showed me the Aqueon 10-gallon fish tank kit.
With a few looks at the box and the specs, I knew this was my tank, or maybe I was just tired of shopping.
The following points will explain exactly why I picked this particular 10-gallon fish tank.
Reasons for Buying an Aqueon 10-Gallon LED Light Kit Fish Tank
1. The Fish Tank Kit was Affordable (Yay for the banking account!)
Yep, for around $100 (on sale), if you get a deal as I did, you can get yourself the a nice aquarium for getting started. And, $100 is a very good price for a very good tank, a great starter tank anyway.
2. The Kit Came with a Filter and a Pump
There was no buying a new tank and then having to go look for the right filter, the perfect pump, and a heater. The Aqueon came with everything I needed. I mean literally everything.
Note, no matter what tank you buy, you will most likely need to purchase some gravel, an ornament (stone, something cool) and of course your freshwater fish. It would be kind of cruel if they kept fish in a box on a shelf.
Oh yeah, some water might help too, but you don’t have to buy that. Just wait until you get home.
3. The Kit is Super-easy to Put Together (No cursing included!)
This tank was definitely not designed by IKEA. You can literally put it together in about 20 to 30 minutes, max.
So if you cuss like I do when you get frustrated, no worries here. This thing is easy. Heck, let the kids do it for crying out loud.
4. The Kit is a Perfect Size, 10 Gallons.
The tank is 10 gallons, which isn’t too big or too small.
However, let me say this. You have to be very careful about the number and types of fish you plan to keep. Especially if you have a 10-gallon tank. The rule is one inch of fish per gallon of water.
Also, for a 10-gallon tank, I’d never suggest putting a crayfish into the tank. It’s just too small. It can work, but ideally you would want a 20-gallon aquarium. That’s because these guys are very aggressive and need space. They are also pretty dirty and will dirty up a 10-gallon tank pretty fast.
Basially, the 10-gallon fish tank is a great size for getting started. I wouldn’t go smaller than ten gallons. If you ever do decide to add more fish and upgrade, you need to check out a bigger tank.
Here’s a good article on selecting the best tank. It talks about factors in determining the size of any tank you purchase, other freshwater fish that you keep with your crayfish, and things like that.
